90s Skills Circuit

The 90 Second Circuit Challenge is a fast-paced, energetic session that gives children the opportunity to put all the skills they have developed so far to the test. Children are divided into small teams of approximately 4–5 and work their way through a series of exciting challenges, with just 90 seconds to complete each one.

Challenges can include everything from target-pad hitting and hoop catching to cone collecting and balancing a sword on a mask while advancing. Each activity tests a different combination of fencing skills, coordination, balance, accuracy, speed, concentration and control.

The ultimate aim is to achieve the Grand Slam by successfully completing every challenge. However, teamwork is essential: every member of the team must complete their individual part of the challenge for the whole team to pass. Children quickly learn that success isn't simply about having the fastest or most skilful person in the group — everyone has an important contribution to make.

The format encourages teamwork, communication and performing under time pressure, with children supporting and encouraging their teammates as the 90-second clock counts down. Teams may need to think tactically about their approach, stay focused when the pressure builds and recover quickly if something doesn't go according to plan.

Keep the atmosphere lively and celebrate determination, teamwork and improvement as much as completing the challenges themselves. The countdown format should create plenty of excitement, with teams cheering one another on as they attempt to conquer each circuit and achieve the 90 Second Grand Slam.
