Skills Fencing 4

This General Skills & Fencing session combines reactions, concentration, problem-solving, teamwork and fencing skills through a varied selection of games and challenges. The activities encourage children to think as well as move, with opportunities to work independently, cooperate with others and apply their developing skills in fencing matches.

The session begins with Heads & Shoulders – Round Robin, an engaging reaction game that tests listening, concentration and response speed. Children need to stay focused on the instructions and be ready to react at the right moment, providing a lively and competitive start to the class.

Position & Movement 5 - (Sword Hold & Lunge Attack) continues the development of the children’s fencing foundations, reinforcing balance, positioning, footwork agility and movement control. Encourage children to maintain good technique even as the exercises become more familiar and the pace increases.

Cone Code Breaker introduces a problem-solving element, challenging children to combine memory, observation and logical thinking with physical activity. Encourage them to communicate their ideas, learn from previous attempts and adapt their approach as they work towards cracking the code.

Hoop Pass – 2 Teams shifts the focus towards teamwork, coordination and communication. Children need to work together effectively rather than concentrating only on their own performance, reinforcing the importance of cooperation and supporting others within a team challenge.

During Fencer & Coach 5, children can put their developing fencing skills into practice. Encourage fencers to consider distance, timing, movement and tactical choices, while the children taking the coaching role practise observing carefully and offering positive, useful feedback.

The session finishes with Red Light/Green Light V1, providing a fun way to reinforce reactions, listening, concentration and controlled movement. Throughout the class, celebrate good teamwork and clever thinking alongside physical performance, encouraging children to recognise that successful fencing involves the mind as much as the body. This General Skills & Fencing session combines reactions, concentration, problem-solving, teamwork and fencing skills through a varied selection of games and challenges. Encourage fencers to consider distance, timing, movement and tactical choices, while the children taking the coaching role practise observing carefully and offering positive, useful feedback.  This is the children's 5th exposure to Fencer & Coach and they should be now encouraged to focus on three elements - the 4 big mistakes, patterns and weaknesses and strengths.
